The driver pulled off the road during the shooting on I-485 in west Charlotte

Police are investigating a shooting in a vehicle that ran off the highway Thursday near the interchange of Interstate 85 and the I-485 Outer Loop.

No one was injured in a drive-by shooting in west Charlotte near the airport, according to an alert from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

The shooting was likely not random, police said. After the shooting, the vehicle ran off the road and a man refused emergency transport, according to paramedics. No arrests have been announced.

The investigation is one of at least three shootings in moving vehicles in the past month.

Last month, a gunman shot and killed 30-year-old Deshawn Moore while traveling along the Billy Graham Parkway, according to WSOC-TV, news partner of the Charlotte Observer. Police arrested Thomas Eugene Glover Jr., 23, according to CMPD.

Within 24 hours, Pineville police investigated a shooting that involved the driver, Markuvius J. White, 27, died, according to WSOC-TV. Officers arrested Brandon M. Hinson, 19, Pineville detectives said.

Last week, Charlotte Mayor V. Lyles released a statement Violence and recent killings.

“This senseless violence has no place in Charlotte,” Lyles said in a statement.

He said the city plans to expand programs such as Alternatives to Violence, which receives about $475,000 to identify high-risk individuals, identify and prevent conflict, and change social norms to create safer and more secure environments.
