Sioux Falls roommates have been charged with raping a 13-year-old girl, court records show

Two Sioux Falls roommates are each facing fourth-degree rape charges after sexually assaulting a minor girl, according to arrest affidavits filed in Minnehaha County Court.

Isaiah Joseph Hines, 20, and Austin Laverne Lambertz, 20, are both charged in connection with an incident in September, when a 13-year-old victim reported a sexual assault at an apartment complex in the 400 block of South Hein Avenue. Sioux Falls.

Sioux Falls Police Department detectives were able to locate the roommates through surveillance video and Snapchat messages during the incident, court documents state. And with a complete sexual assault kit, detectives were able to match Hines’ DNA profile, according to court documents. At the time of the incident, court documents say the victim was 13 and Hines was 19.

On the night of the incident, the victim was restrained using a zip tie and raped by Hines while the victim was under the influence of marijuana, according to the affidavit. Surveillance showed Lambertz leaving the apartment and minutes later, Hines and the victim exiting the apartment and leaving together, the affidavits read.

During the investigation, detectives learned that the victim had prior sexual contact with the defendants in 2022. When police initially interviewed Lambertz, he admitted to having sex with the victim, but denied knowing the victim’s actual age, the victim said he was 18, court records show. She told police she received an anonymous phone call later telling her the victim was 16 or 17, after which she called the victim, who said she was 17, records state.

After interviews with law enforcement, Lambertz called detectives in January, recanting her statements and denying sexual contact with the victim, according to court documents.

The documents say Hines did not speak to investigators and decided to seek legal advice.

As of Wednesday, Lambertz was being held on $100,000 bond. Hines was being held without bond, facing additional charges including resisting arrest, being a fugitive from justice and a parole hold for child pornography, county jail records show.
