Police are searching for a suspect in a stabbing at a Dollar General in Newton

March 6—The Newton Police Department is searching for a man suspected of stabbing a woman in the Dollar General parking lot in Newton today.

March 6 at 12:54 p.m. at 1803 First Ave. e., officers were called about an assault in progress at the Dollar Store. The caller said a man and a woman had gotten into a physical altercation in the parking lot and the woman was bleeding from her back.

The male suspect, identified as Tyrese Bernard Lewis, 38, of Newton, fled the scene eastbound in a vehicle shortly after the altercation. Officers arrived and found the man suffering from stab wounds. He was taken by ambulance for treatment.

The Newton Police Department in a press release described Lewis as a black male with short black hair and a black beard, about 5′ 11′’ tall and weighing 235 pounds. He was wearing a dark jacket, blue flannel shirt, blue jeans and light colored tennis shoes.

Lewis may be driving a black 2010 Chevy Suburban with Iowa license plate number KGU035 He is considered armed and dangerous.

As of 1:45 p.m., the entrance to the Dollar General in Newton is currently blocked by caution tape.
