Police are investigating a shooting in East Vandergrift

March 15—Vandergrift police are investigating a shooting late Saturday night in East Vandergrift.

Police Chief Joe Caporalli confirmed Wednesday that officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 400 block of Kennedy Avenue around 11:55 p.m.

“Police checked the area and no one was seen in the area,” Kaporali said.

No injuries were reported in Saturday’s shooting, but a Kennedy Avenue resident the next day reported his car was damaged and had five bullet holes, Caporalli said.

Police obtained video surveillance from residents of Kennedy Avenue.

The 400 block of Kennedy Avenue has houses on one side and parallels the train tracks that run through the small borough.

“The video is being reviewed, and a suspicious vehicle is visible in the videos,” Caporalli said.

Caporalli said he is hopeful an arrest will be made in the coming weeks.

“Tough leads are being followed,” Caporalli said. Evidence collected from the scene is currently undergoing lab tests.

“This (shooting) is not something out of the ordinary for East Vandergrift,” Caporalli said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Vandergrift police at 724-568-5507.
