Ohio police say the mother of a man who opened fire at a South Carolina gas station has died
A woman traveling from South Carolina to Ohio was fatally shot in an attempted carjacking at a gas station, police say.

Moser is believed to have attempted to steal a vehicle from an Interstate 71 exit ramp, prompting him to open fire on the vehicle, authorities said.
He then drove to a Shell gas station, where he allegedly tried to steal a minivan while Stanford was pumping gas. A carjacker who tried to shoot and kill Stanford in Greenville, South Carolina, has been killed, authorities said.
Moser turned around and fired at a U-Haul van, but the U-Haul’s male driver returned fire, hitting him, the sheriff’s office said.
Moser, of Columbus, died at the scene after being shot multiple times, according to the sheriff.
Stanford, a 39-year-old mother of four and a grandmother, Ohio was leaving “To make a home with her three young sons and her husband,” a family friend told WSPA.

“My 11-year-old brother called me in a panic and I knew,” Stanford’s daughter, Alexia Vasquez, told WSPA. “I knew what was going on the whole time I was on the phone.”

Shortly before the fatal shooting, Moser was involved in several incidents in Columbus, according to media reports.
