Jury deliberations in the XXXTentacion murder will resume Monday

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (AP) – Jury deliberations for the trial of three accused men Rising rap star XXXTentacion is murdered A robbery during 2018 will resume on Monday after the panel concluded its seventh day of deliberations on Thursday without reaching a verdict.

Seven women and five men asked Circuit Judge Michael Usan if they could get Friday off to attend to personal appointments, and the judge granted the request. Earlier on Thursday, judges asked the defendants to look at social media accounts as well as GPS data or maps to calculate the distance between points mentioned in the case. The judge rejected those requests, saying the verdict must be based on the evidence presented at trial.

Michael Boatwright, 28 and the alleged shooter; Dedrick Williams, 26 and alleged ringleader and getaway driver; and Trayvon Newsome, 24 and the alleged second gunman, are charged with first-degree murder and armed robbery. They are face to face Mandatory life imprisonment If convicted. Prosecutors did not seek the death penalty.

During the months-long trial, prosecutors tried to link the men to the shooting outside Riva Motorsports in suburban Fort Lauderdale through extensive surveillance video taken inside and outside the store and cellphone videos of them flashing $100 bills. Prosecutors also had testimony from a fourth person, Robert Allen, a former friend of the defendants who said he took part in the robbery. He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder last year and is awaiting sentencing.

Defense lawyers accused Allen of being a liar trying to avoid a life sentence. They also said prosecutors and detectives conducted a poor investigation that didn’t look at other potential suspects, including Canadian rap star Drake — who and XXXTentacion had an online feud.

XXXTentacion, whose real name was Jahseh Onfroy, was a platinum-selling rising star who tackled issues including prejudice and depression in his songs. He also drew criticism for bad behavior and multiple arrests, including for severely beating and abusing his girlfriend.
