Fort Myers man dies in Charlotte County crash; Driver charged with DUI manslaughter

A 67-year-old Fort Myers man died in a three-car crash outside the county that led to the arrest of another driver.

The crash happened around 8:10 p.m. Friday along Interstate 75 near Tucker’s Grade in Punta Gorda, according to a Florida Highway Patrol incident report.

One of the drivers was arrested, charged with DUI manslaughter and booked into the Charlotte County Jail.

That driver was traveling south on Interstate 75, in the inside lane behind the other two involved vehicles, just south of the Tuckers grade.

As the driver approaches two other vehicles, he moves from the inside lane to the outside lane.

The left front of the driver’s vehicle rear-ended the first of the two SUVs, then collided with the right side of the second SUV.

The first of the two SUVs spun, entered the grassy shoulder and overturned. The latter rotates and rests between the outer lane and the outer paved shoulder.

The Fort Myers man died at the scene.
