Rebecca Ann Aguilar, 34, and Michael Ross Aguilar, 33, were booked into the Ector County Jail on suspicion of sexual abuse of a child, a Class A misdemeanor, and released after posting $1,500 surety bonds.

According to an Odessa Police Department report, on Jan. 25, officers were dispatched to a local school after the girl told someone at the school that she had been sexually assaulted by someone else a second time.

During a forensic interview at the Harmony Home Children’s Advocacy Center, the girl said she was first sexually abused by a certain man at age 8 and that the Aguilars learned of the abuse in April 2022, the report said.

The girl and both Aguilar told authorities they had a meeting with all parties involved and they asked the girl what she wanted to do, the report said.

The then 14-year-old said she didn’t want to do anything and so they decided not to report the incident, the report said.

The couple admitted they were supposed to report the sexual abuse to law enforcement due to similar incidents with other children in 2018, the report said.

“Both suggested they allowed a 14-year-old to make decisions about such a critical incident and even risked (the suspect’s) welfare by allowing him to remain in the residence,” the report said.

According to Texas law, people must report such crimes to law enforcement or child protective services within 48 hours of becoming aware of them.

The suspected rapist, whose name has been redacted from the report, was arrested on January 26.
