A teenager has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of a Battle Creek Central student

BATTLE CREEK – Battle Creek police have arrested a boy in connection with the shooting death of a Battle Creek Central student Friday.

The suspect is a 14-year-old boy from Battle Creek, police said in a news release Sunday. The juvenile is currently in the Calhoun County Youth Center, awaiting a hearing Tuesday. Police could not identify him.

The teenager was arrested in connection with Friday’s shooting death of 17-year-old Zack Snyder.

Police were called to the area of ​​Battle Creek Avenue and Capital Avenue SW at 12:10 a.m. Friday in response to a report of gunshots. Snyder was found unresponsive on the road next to his car. He was declared dead on the spot.

Police found the 14-year-old in a parked car in the area of ​​Jackson Street and Bedford Road around 2 a.m. Sunday. He was arrested without incident, police said.

Police said the teenager was one of two people seen in Snyder’s car Friday before gunshots were reported in the area.

Witnesses said two men ran from the car after the gunshots, toward Capital SW and East Goguac Street. One man was wearing a black-and-red jacket, and had long, messy hair. The other was wearing a black jacket with white patches and a “ski-mask-style” hat, police said.

Detectives have recovered a gun they believe was involved in the shooting, but cannot confirm until forensic analysis is completed, police said.
