3 Texas women are missing after traveling to Mexico to sell clothes at a flea market
Two sisters and a friend from a Texas border town apparently disappeared last month after traveling to Mexico, where they hoped to sell clothes at a flea market, according to the FBI.
Maritza Trinidad Perez Rios, 47, Marina Perez Rios, 48 and their friend, Dora Alicia Cervantes Saenz, 53 – all from Penitas, Tex. To McAllen- Not heard from since they crossed the border on Feb. 24, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Penitas Police Chief Roel Barmea said they were traveling in a mid-1990s green Chevy Silverado to a flea market in the city of Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon state. About three hours drive from the border.
Their families are contacting Mexican authorities, who are investigating their disappearance.
The husband of one of the missing women told investigators he talked to his wife on the phone during the trip, the police chief said, but became concerned when he couldn’t reach her later.
“Since he could not be contacted that weekend, he came that Monday and reported to us,” Barmea said. The three women have not been heard from since.
Officials from the state prosecutor’s office said they were also investigating as of Monday.
The news comes more than a week after Latavia “Tay” McGee, Shaid Woodard, Jindale Brown and Eric Williams — four Americans — went missing.
